‘AI G3’: U.S.-China AI Supremacy and South Korea’s Role – Phil Yang, Korea-China Journal, 2022

The core of the G2 confrontation between the United States and China is AI supremacy. If the Cold War was defined by a military power struggle, the current U.S.-China G2 era, shaped by globalization, has shifted from trade wars to technological competition. At the center of this shift is artificial intelligence (AI). While military tensions and trade disputes persist, the overarching competition is now technological, with AI at its heart. For South Korea, caught between this U.S.-China conflict, survival depends first on establishing its status in the AI-driven G3 era and then achieving Korean reunification.
